Today was quite a lovely day. The weather was perfect and we did some really interesting, history filled activities. We first had class which is seeming to take longer and longer. I was so anxious to get out of my seat today. I just could not pay attention. Sorry Professors! When we finally got out of class, we headed back to the flat to make lunch. I mixed it up today and had potatoes. Exciting, I know. We didn't have too long at the flat before we had to head over to the Churchill War Rooms. We hopped on the tube and arrived right on time to the war rooms, a little early in fact. We headed into the Churchill War Rooms and they were so interesting. A lot of the rooms had not been touched since the end of the war and were exactly how they had left them from the war. So cool! It is amazing to see history right in front of you. I also learned a lot of cool stuff about Winston and his life. He was a pretty amazing guy. I think my favorite thing about the museum part was all his quotes. He said some really great stuff! I had a great time at the Churchill War Rooms. I loved it so much, I even got a post card, Winston Churchill Quote Book, and a Father's Day present for my Dad (be very excited, Dad!).
^^THe fancy man himself sat in the wooden chair at the back!
^^Wouldn't be a tour without the figurines and audio guide
^^Hey look! It's Winston :)
^^Did you know he was a painter? I didn't.
^^Winston's door on Downing Street and a lovely quote
^^Winston's dining room
^^These wax figures are so creepy!!!!
^^Winston's bed!
After the War Rooms, we decided we would go and get dinner by the V&A Museum at this Thai restaurant we had heard about. We got to the restaurant and it was closed for 20 more minutes, so we walked around the adorable little town for a while till we could finally go and eat. At this Thai Restaurant, I got the most delicious meal. It was chicken and mushrooms in coconut milk soup with a side of sticky rice. Seriously so good. I am not usually a big Thai person, but I loved this. After dinner, we went over to the crepe/gelato place across the street and got dessert. I got a strawberry cream crepe and the other girls got gelato. I would have to say the best thing about it, though, was the man serving us our desserts. He was so beautiful and italian. Dang. He was attractive! I think I know where we will be going for dessert more often.
^^Beautiful Natural History Museum
We got out of the tube station and weren't really sure where we were going and this guy with an info shirt came up and asked where we needed to go. We told him War Horse and he started explaining very crazily how to get there. I knew something was up with this guy. When he finished, he told us he was homeless and asked for money. We didn't really know what to do in that moment so we just kind of walked away. Can you say awkward? I should have guessed he was a homeless guy when he first walked. Well, we finally got to the theater and headed to our seats. Our seats were the last row in the balcony, but they were still great seats. We had a perfect overview of the stage. The show was so incredible! The horses were played by puppeteers as well as some other animals. They puppeteered so beautifully and so realistically. It was breathtaking! Sometimes I forgot that it wasn't a real horse on the stage. The story was a tiny bit different than the movie, but was still very touching. I loved every second of that show even the singing bits that I wasn't sure about in the beginning. It was such a beautiful work of art.
After the show, we headed straight to the flat and went to bed. We have a 10 mile country walk tomorrow that we need to be nice and rested for. I am so excited for tomorrow! Loving London more than ever.
