So I don't have any pictures from today, so I put in a picture of Hyde Park, the park I live across the street from.
Today was a pretty great day because it was Sunday. I love Sundays! They are so relaxing and amazing. I woke up at about 8:00am and caught up on some blogging. I also ate a nice breakfast (a bowl a cereal so I guess not that nice). I took a shower and did some reading of "King Lear" for English. It was a nice slow morning unlike the rushed mornings during the week. At 11:00, I finally started getting ready for church. Church did not start till 1:00pm but it took about an hour to get to my ward because we had to take the tube and walk a bit to get to the building. Tessa and Ali were assigned to another ward but they decided to come to my ward, so they did not have to pay 10 pounds to get to theirs. It was fun to have them with me!
My ward is called the Whitechapel Ward and I love it! We got out of the Tube station and had no idea where we were going, we asked around a bit, but no one knew. We decided to start walking. After a few seconds, we looked across the street and saw some girls from our group! Thank goodness because we would have gotten very lost. As we were walking we saw a group of people at the bus stop all in church clothes and two of the guys had Elder badges. We walked by smiling and they asked if we were Mormon (when you see a group of girls in modest dresses, you tend to assume), we answered yes and talked to them for a little then hurried to our ward.
We walked into our building and were immediatley welcomed. I could feel their love from the second we walked in. We sat down and so many people walked up to shake our hands. I could tell they were excited to have us. Everyone called us the "BYU students." The speakers were so great. The speakers were two young men, the second counselor of the young men, and the young men's president. They all spoke on the Priesthood. Three of the four speakers had British accents. I had never paid such good attention before. The ward was so diverse! I found out from this Russian man that I met that there is someone from every continent in this ward. Crazy, I know!
After sacrament meeting, we went in to the Bishop's office and got temporary ward callings and got assigned to speak one Sunday. My ward calling is with the Primary. I got to go into the Nursery this Sunday with Tessa. There were only two kids in the nursery, Yeva and Nathan. They were both almost two and were so adorable. They were the sweetest kids and I loved watching them! We stayed in the Nursery for a while with this awesome Russian guy. He's a physicist! Then we took the two little ones in to singing and sharing time. Yeva let me hold her in my lap. Such a sweet heart. The lesson and songs were so simple, but I needed to hear them. I loved watching the children and seeing how much they know. We don't give kids enough credit.
Then we headed home. It was a pretty long Tube ride and the Tube even stopped randomly for like 10 minutes. My claustrophobia did not like that especially since the train was packed! When we finally made it home, we made dinner and then headed to a fire side from the stake president. The stake president was this young British man who was quite attractive! Again his British accent was captivating so I listened to every word. He gave such a great fireside. It was so powerful. He talked about how God will heal and love us no matter what. I absolutely loved it!
After the fireside, Ali and I headed to the main building and did some laundry and wrote our King Lear paper. On our way to the main building, we walked by the Bulgarian Embassy where there were a ton of people crowded in front of it. We kind of slowed down to see what was going on and a women stopped us and started talking to us in Bulgarian. We just kind of stared at her and she eventually said, "Oh, you don't speak Bulgaria." We said no and she told us that there was a Bulgarian election going on. We got to the main building, did our laundry, and headed home and went to bed.
