^^^ Our lovely Metro Station!
Today was a very interesting and knowledgeable day! We got to sleep in a little and headed to Temple Station to meet up with the rest of the Study Abroad group. We arrived at 9:45 and went over to the Middle Temple Hall where all the fancy British lawyers train and stuff.
We had to wait outside for a bit so me and two of my roommates took pictures by a fountain. Pretty, right? They finally let us in after a guy (who we thought was a guy telling us the tour was about to start) came out and told us that we could go into the building because the fire they thought there was, was actually someone burning a piece of toast. He was obviously not talking to us! So we waited a little longer till this adorable older lady with a British accent walked up and said she would be our tour guide for this building. We first walked into this huge dining hall where Twelfth Night was first performed for Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth! Amazing! They even still have the same table that they would have sat at.
^^^This is a painting from when one of the walls in the Hall was destroyed from a bomb in WWII. They collected the pieces and put it together like a Jigsaw.
Next we went into a room where the lawyers and such go for coffee breaks. It's called the Prince room meaning Prince William has chillaxed in this room. Yeah, I got pretty excited. Many famous men have sat in this room! There were also paintings of a Dr. Jekylle and Dr. Hyde who the book was based off.
^^^Me hanging out with Prince William. The usual.....I wish!
We went into some other cool historical rooms. It was really interesting and I could not believe the history in this building. It has been around so long! Much longer than I can ever hope to live. It just blows my mind. Next, we walked over to the Temple Church (the name confuses me as well). This is the church that Shakespeare would have attended if he were a churching going man. The Da Vinci Code was also filmed here. Many famous people have been here like the Harry Potter kids, Eddie Redmayne, and Tom Hanks! I'm sure some even more important people have been here, but I do not know they're names. My bad...
^^^I'm happy this picture happened. Love you, Tessa!
^^^Yes, I am the British Master Treasurer!
Next, we walked over to another church calles the Southwarke Cathedral that had a little shrine and stained glass for Shakespeare. I had to be very sneaky with my picture taking because pictures were not allowed. So I sneaked this great picture of Shakespeare's pose and then a worker walked over and I started freaking out! I thought I was about to get into some serious trouble so I hurry and stuck my camera in my bag and Mckenzie asked me what time it was so the guy would think I just had my phone out and not a camera. We totally fooled him :)
^^^I can't get over how fabulous his pose is!
After the Southwarke Cathedral, we walked over to Borough Market. It was so cute and we got these delicious grilled cheeses. They were so cheesy and they had this onion and other veggies cut up and on the sandwich. Yum! My mouth is watering just thinking about it and for those who know me, you know cheese is my favorite food so I went crazy for these grilled cheese. I might have to go back and get another. It was totally worth standing in the rain in a line to get this deliciousness. Then we walked around the adorable market and saw all the different produce, bread, dessert, and anything else you can think of stands. Everything looked so fresh and delicious. We stopped by a baked goods stand and got delicious Raspberry Tart. It was so light, sweet, and just perfect. We have decided to return to the Borough Market very soon.
After the Borough Market, we scurried on home and attempted to read The Tempest all together in the living room. Yeah, that was a bad idea. We just kept talking and getting on Facebook and such. We got a little reading done and even took a thirty minute nap. It was great! I love our adorable flat. It really is starting to feel like a home. We ate dinner and then headed out to see Othello off West End. I was excited to see this smaller production of Othello. The theater was above a pub called Lion & Unicorn and only had about fifty seats. It was a really great performance. Of course, there were some performers in the show that were not as strong as others, but overall I really enjoyed it. I did not know I could enjoy Shakespeare so much. I learned that I need to read and study a Shakespeare play before I see it, otherwise I will have no idea what is going on. My favorite actors in the play were Roderigo, Cassio, and Emilia. They gave really strong and powerful performances. When we were leaving the pub, one of my roommates had to run to the bathroom and while we were waiting, Cassio walked by and got my courage up and spoke to him. All I was able to get out was "You're incredible. I loved your performance." He was really nice back. It was a great moment for me. I am always so scared to talk to actors after shows which is weird because I love it when people talk to me after shows I'm in so these actors are probably the same. We scurried on home and headed to bed.
^^^ I loved this so I took a picture of it.
