London Life: Day 17, A Special Treat

And the world's best Dad award goes to..... my Dad!! So as many of you know, my Dad is a Delta pilot and because he loves me so much, he switched trips with another pilot so he could have a trip with a layover in London, so he could see me. It has been really hard being away from my family for so long and it was so amazing to have my Dad with me in this city that I love so much even if it was just for the day. We had a perfect day together. This morning, I slept in till 10 and then went to the grocery store, Tesco, with the roomies. Dad flew in this morning at 9 and needed to sleep before we met up, so I had time to go grocery shopping, but the whole time I just wanted it to be 1:30 already so I could see my Daddy that I missed so much. When we got back to the flat, I put my groceries away and basically ran to my Dad's hotel which was conveniently just a few blocks down the street from the Tube stop we go to so it was about a 15 minute walk.

I got to his hotel and headed up to his room. I was just about to knock when my dad pulled the door open. I gave my daddy a huge hug! I was so happy to see him. We sat in his room for a while and talked about what we wanted to do. I decided that I wanted to take him to some of my favorite spots. The first place I took him was Borough Market, so we could get lunch and see that cute part of town. We walked to the Tube station and I was so excited to show my Dad how I knew how to get around on the Tube. I decided that we would get off at a stop that was little further from Borough Market so we could walk across the river and see the Globe. It was a nice walk. We got to Borough Market and walked around for a bit, tried some curd and jams. For lunch, we finally decided on fish and chips. They were delicious. I was worried about the fish being too fishy but it was not in the least. After fish and chips, we went to my favorite pastry stand. I got a raspberry tart and Dad got some kind of lemon pastry pound cake thing. They were both perfection!

After Borough Market, we went back to my flat so we could drop off some of the things Dad brought me from home. Mainly candy, not too impressed with the British candy, but that is okay! We walked over to Hyde Park and rented some bikes so we could ride around. Dad and I both love riding bikes so it was perfect. We rode around and I took him to Kensington Palace so I could show him the Queen Victoria statue. It is also the only place I know how to get to on the bikes. We didn't go into the palace just looked at the outside and then headed back to the rental station. We put the bikes up and then walked to the Italian Gardens. On the way to the Gardens, we walked by the Peter Pan statue and stopped to look at that for a while. When we got to the Italian Gardens we walked around it for a while, talking. It was such a lovely day which was amazing because while we were at Borough Market it started hailing. London weather is so bipolar! While walking around the gardens we noticed a swan sitting on a nest which you don't see too often. The Italian Gardens are my favorite, so I was really happy to get to show them to my Dad.

After Hyde Park, it was time to head to "One Man, Two Guvnors" with the rest of the Study Abroad group. We got there 45 minutes early so Dad and I decided to go to McDonalds for a pre-show snack. We both got Strawberry Banana smoothies and shared a medium frie. We sat in there for a while and talked it up till it was time to head to the play. The play was so hilarious! There was a lot of audience interaction. There was even a part where the main actor was asking the audience for a sandwich and someone actually held one up! It totally threw the actor off and he answered and went on this long talk that was totally improvised and so hilarious!!! It was such a cool thing to see. There were also parts when audience members got pulled on stage. The girl that got pulled up on stage was so funny because she was so shy and had to do the funniest things. She even got sprayed with a fire extinguisher. We ended up finding out that she was an actor that they placed in the audience. She did such a great job! The whole cast did an amazing job. I had so much fun at this show and cried from laughing so hard.

After the show, Tessa, McKenzie, Dad, and I went to Byron's to get an after show treat. Us three girls got milkshakes and Dad got a banana split. It was so fun and I loved that my Dad got to meet my amazing roommates. When we finished, Dad had to head back to his hotel because he had to wake up early to fly back to the states. I seriously could not have asked for a more perfect day with my Dad. I love him so much and am so blessed to have my amazing Dad. He cares so much about his family and would do anything to make them happy. He definitely made his little girl happy today! He's coming back Sunday for the day and I will be counting the seconds till he is back. I miss him already!
