London Life: Day 12

I had no idea I was going to fall in love with this city so quickly. It hasn't replaced NYC or anything, but it's getting pretty dang close. I am definitely a city girl. I love walking out my door, walking a few minutes to the tube, and getting to wherever I need to go so easily. The best part is that the tube is so easy! I just really love London a lot.

This fine morning in this lovely city, we actually got to sleep in! When I say sleep in, I mean we slept till 8:30am. It was great! I woke up and took my jolly good time eating breakfast and getting ready. I finished reading "A Mid Summer's Night Dream" for my Shakespeare class and wrote half my paper on "The Tempest." At about 11:00, we decided we needed to get out and do something, so we headed to the adorable Portobello Road. This is a road off of the Notting Hill tube stop that has all these little shops set out and there are in door shops as well. I would say there is about 2 miles of shops. (I might be exaggerating a bit) This market is one of the number one places for antique shopping. So much cool stuff! We got there and it was packed, but we still had fun. This Road had antique tea pots, books, jewelry, clocks, anything you could think of! They also had new stuff like clothes and food. The food was so incredible! We got delicious pastries. Ali and I got apple turnovers and Tessa got a sprinkle donut. At Portobella Road I purchased an awesome antique book that is the story of Queen Victoria. She is my favorite! I also got a head band and two scarfs that I can tie into head scarfs. For food, I bought the apple turn over and chicken paella. So much goodness at Portobello Road!

^^^Lunch!

After Portobello Road, we headed back to the flat where we ate lunch and I finished my paper. I also caught up on How I Met Your Mother. I tried to fight it, but I had to watch. I just love it so much! At 6:30pm, it was time to head to the theater for "Lear." The called it just Lear instead of King Lear because King Lear was played by a woman. Interesting choice, I know. The journey to the theater was pretty long. It involved two transfers and a pretty long walk. We made it just in time, though! McKenzie and I got front row seats. They were really great and we sat down and were excited for the show! We should not have gotten that excited. The show was not completely awful, but it was very hard for me to stay awake if that says anything. It kind of seemed like a high school performance where they try to do really cool and creative things, but they have no idea why they are doing them. Some of the actors were pretty good, but some of the others were the opposite. McKenzie and I each got an ice cream at intermission, lemon and mango, and they were great! The show also used a blow horn at one point and had really loud sound effects that scared the heck out of me when they would randomly play them. After the show, we tiredly headed home and goofed off on the tube. Some random guy was listening to music really loudly and we started dancing a little. It was hilarious! Also, Janell and Carson did Gollum impersonations as Janell read her Gollum book. It was a lot of fun! Things are great here and if you can't tell, I am loving it.
